INTRODUCTION

Hello, my name is Nurizzianie Irdina Binti Mohd Rasid.

Currently, I'm a third-year student of Bachelor Engineering Technology Electrical with Honours at University Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute. This blog page is about my work and research for Flood Monitoring and Warning System using IOT. All about my Final Year Project, I'll update in this blog.

WEEK 1: FINDING SUPERVISOR

In the first week on this semester, I try to find an available lecturer as my supervisor for Final Year Project (FYP). After make an approaching with some lecturer , I decided to be supervise by Madam Julie Roslita. She agreed to supervise me for the Final Year Project. Madam Julie is a lecturer for Electronics Technology Section at University Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute. She is very supportive and responsible lecturer. So, by chose her as my supervisor, it is easier for me to discuss with her about my project progress.





WEEK 2: WORKSHOP 1 & RESEARCH FOR A PROJECT TITLE

The first workshop (General briefing) was held on the second week. The briefing was conducted by Sir Azmi at TTL 2. All the Final Year Project students are compulsory to join this briefing. The time and date are shown as below:

Date: 15 March 2023 (Wednesday)

Time: 2.30 p.m

Venue: TTL 2

Here are some of the contents that have been briefed :

1) FYP Assessments Criteria

2) Thesis Submission Process (PDF format & Hardbound)

3) Presentation Day

4) FYP Claim

There also have question and answer session during the briefing. The briefing end at 4.00 p.m.

Besides, in this week, I also make some research for a project title from some source such as journal, internet and others. I list down some of project title that I found from my research. Then, I discuss with my supervisor about the project title. I decided to do 'Flood Monitoring and Warning System using IOT' for my Final Year Project. My supervisor was agreed for me to do this project. After that, I understand the synopsis and criteria to do this project and improve the system from the previous project.

WEEK 3: REGISTRATION OF FYP TITLE

In week 3,  I met with my supervisor to register the project title on the FYP website. This week is the last week for all FYP1 students to register project title. Madam Julie will assists and supervise me on doing the final year project. 

WEEK 4: WORKSHOP 2

The second workshop for Final Year Project 1 students was held in week 4. The briefing was conducted by Sir Shah Rizaili Mukhtar via Microsoft Teams.  The workshop is about how to write the proposal. The time and date of the workshop is shown below:

Date: 29 March 2023(Wednesday)

Time: 2.30 p.m

The following are the contents need to have in the proposal paper:

1) Chapter 1- Introduction
2) Chapter 2 - Literature Review
3) Chapter 3 - Methodology

The workshop end at 4.00 p.m. 

WEEK 5: WORKSHOP 3 (PROJECT PRESENTATION & DEMONSTRATION)

In week 5, the third workshop was held on 5th April 2023. It was conducted by Madam Azliza Mohamad Arshad via Microsoft Teams. This workshop is about Project Presentation & Demonstration. The time and date of the workshop shown below:

Date: 5 April 2023 (Wednesday)

Time: 2.30 p.m

The contents need to have in the slides presentation and the arrangement such as the following:
1) Title
2) Introduction of FYP & Literature Review
3) Problem Statement
4) Objective of the Project
5) Methodology
6) Block Diagram of the Project
7) Gantt Chart
8) Estimated Cost
9) Conclusion

As mention by Madam Azliza, all the students need atleast 15 pages for the slides presentation. 



WEEK 6: PREPARATION FOR SLIDES PRESENTATION (DEFENSE PROPOSAL)

There are only a week before presentation day. This week, I have more focus on my slides presentation. I need to prepare the slides presentation of my project to present on week 7. The slides must be include the introduction,  problem statement, objective of the project, scope and limitations, methodology, block diagram, gantt chart, estimated cost and lastly the conclusion. I show the draft of my progress to Madam Julie to check the contents of my slides. Some correction need to do such as the objectives of the project, problem statement, scope and limitations and the literature review. The slides must be easy to understand so that the assessor will know what is the proposed project. 

WEEK 7: DEFENSE PROPOSAL DAY

The Defense Proposal Day was held on 19th April 2023 via the Microsoft Teams. All the FYP 1 were involved on this day. All the FYP 1 student have been divided into some groups. I have been in group 10 with a few students. Our assessors are AP. Dr. Muhamad Izhar and  Sir Azman from Electrical Department. The presentation start at 9.00 a.m. and end at 2.00 p.m. All students cooperated very well during the presentation day. 

WEEK 8: WRITING A PROPOSAL REPORT (CHAPTER 1)

In week 8, I only focus on chapters 1 for the report proposal.

Chapter 1 is about the introduction of the project. The subtopic in this chapter are such as the following:

1) Introduction

2) Problem Statement

3) Objective of the project

4) Scopes and Limitations

5) Chapter summary

There are the objectives of the project:

1) To develop a system that can monitor the flood conditions and provide timely
warning to people living in flood-prone areas.

2) To establish an Internet of Things system in generate a warning message to
the authority and villagers via SMS and Blynk application.

3) To build an effective monitoring and warning system which is consists of solar
panel as the supply, sensors and transceiver. 




WEEK 9: WRITING A PROPOSAL REPORT (CHAPTER 2)

In week 9, I proceed with chapter 2 for the proposal report which is the Literature Review. This chapter discussed about the previous project history and comparison of the previous project. The previous project history is used as a references and guidelines for this project. It is important to do some analysis on previous study in getting knowledge of the current technology and identifying advantages and disadvantages of previous system which can be used to improve further the proposed system. Therefore, literature review covers the comparison between the existing system and proposed system and some general information about the technology used in proposed system. The Flood Monitoring and Warning System Using IOT will improve the system to make it more effective and efficient.

WEEK 11: WRITING A PROPOSAL REPORT (CHAPTER 3)

In week 11, I proceed with chapter 3 for the proposal report.

This chapter consists of the following subtopic:

1) Block Diagram

2) Flowchart

3) Material and Apparatus

4) Gantt Chart

The material used to make this project function successfully are Ultrasonic sensor, Arduino Atmega 328, Buzzer, GSM Module and Wi-fi Module. 

WEEK 10: WRITING A PROPOSAL REPORT (CHAPTER 2)

In this week, I continue with writing chapter 2 for the proposal report. I continue make some research about the previous project history to make comparison among all the existing project.

WEEK 12: WORKSHOP 4 (CLAIM AND DOCUMENTATION)

In week 12, the last workshop which is about Claim and Documentation was held on 31 May 2023. it was conducted by Dr. Fahmi Hussin via the Microsoft Teams. The details of the workshop such as the following:

As mentioned by Dr. Fahmi during the briefing, degree student can claim RM 500/person. And for Diploma student, they can claim RM 300/person for the Final Year Project.

WEEK 13: SUBMIT DRAFT FOR PROPOSAL REPORT

The students has a week before submitting the finalized proposal report to the supervisor. This week, I sent the draft of proposal report to Madam Julie for her to check and undergo with plagiarism detection by Turnitin. A few corrections need to manage after multiple checks by her.

WEEK 14: SUBMISSION OF FINAL PROPOSAL REPORT

In week 14, all students for Final Year Project 1  need to submit their proposal report to the respective supervisor. Other than report, the student also compulsory to send the logbook of Final Year Project 1 to the supervisor. 

Lastly, Alhamdulillah, praises and great thanks to Allah S.W.T on His blessing and give me chance to complete this final year project. I would like to express my gratitude to my supervisor, Mrs. Julie Roslita Binti Rusli who gave me the golden opportunity to do this wonderful project. She was responsible to guide and monitoring my progress in this project. Lastly, I want to express my highest appreciation to my beloved parents and my family members for always support and gave some advice to me to complete this project.
